How long asphalt shingles last in New England
Architectural shingles on a ventilated Connecticut roof typically run 22–30 years. Three-tabs fail sooner. Sun, ice dams, and a cold attic are what shorten the clock.

The climate is the spec
Freeze-thaw, nor'easters, and summer sun on a dark south plane. That is the year in Fairfield County. Architectural shingles with ice-and-water at the eaves are what we put on most houses because they match that year. Metal lasts longer and costs more. Three-tabs are what we tear off.
If the shingles are curling, the granule loss is in the gutters, and you are in year 22, you are not going to get another decade out of a repair. If one valley is leaking and the rest of the roof is in year 12, a repair is the right call.
